Simple Cajon Exercises
In today´s post I show you simple exercises that help you getting a consistent sound for the three basic tones, the bass tone, the slap tone and the mid tone.
This includes two exercises, and four different ways of playing each exercise, for a total of eight variations.
The first exercise is four bass tones, followed by four mid tones, four slap tones and again, four mid tones. Then the circle starts again.
Variation 1: Use single strokes, leading with your right hand.
Variation 2: Use single strokes, leading with your left hand.
Variation 3: Use double strokes, leading with your right hand.
Variation 4: Use double strokes, leading with your left hand.
In the second exercise we only play two notes of each tone before moving on to the next tone. So it is two bass tones, two mid tones, two slap tones and two mid tones before the circle starts repeating. Use same variations as in exercise one.
Although I do not use a metronome in the video, I highly recommend using a metronome when practicing. I would start with 80 beats per minute, and play this as eight notes (as written above). Then you can slowly increase the tempo as you get more comfortable with the exercise.
